Design-focused extension and renovation of semi-detached Victorian dwelling near Hampstead Heath, North London.
Full re-support of existing structure. New, open Garden Level living spaces sit below the more formal spaces of the formal Entrance Level living. Full interior fit-out and advice on furnishing. Well insulated to minimise need for heating, and careful insertion of glazing where permitted, to allow natural light deep into the dwelling's interior.
Formerly the residence of the late Michael Foote, the rooms once lined with bookshelves. The dwelling was known as the ‘House of Books’. The clients themselves being book lovers, and owning 100 lineal meters of books, decided upon a vertically continuous, 5-storey library, as the central design peice. The library is encircled by new staircase and glass floors, which emphasise the continuity and elegant proportions of the library elements.
